Be a Disciple Maker

Jesus’ final instructions before ascending to heaven were not merely to spread information or win converts—He commanded us to make disciples. This is more than evangelism; it is investing in people so they grow to become fully devoted followers of Christ who, in turn, make more disciples.

Matthew 28:18-20

“Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” — Matthew 28:18–20 (NIV)

Jesus’ final instructions before ascending to heaven were not merely to spread information or win converts—He commanded us to make disciples. This is more than evangelism; it is investing in people so they grow to become fully devoted followers of Christ who, in turn, make more disciples.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to focus on personal spiritual growth and forget the outward call. Yet the Great Commission is not optional. It is the mission of every believer. Making disciples looks like: Authentic relationship – Walking alongside others as Jesus did with the Twelve. Teaching obedience – Not just head knowledge, but helping people apply God’s Word to daily life. Multiplication – Equipping others to repeat the process.

You don’t need a theology degree or a platform. You need a willing heart, time, and the presence of Jesus, who promises, “I am with you always.”

Application Questions: 1. Who is one person God has placed in your life right now that you could begin discipling? 2. What practical step can you take this week to invest in their spiritual growth (a weekly coffee, Bible study, prayer together, etc.)? 3. In what areas of your own life do you need to grow in obedience so you can lead others well?

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me not just to believe, but to follow and to multiply. Forgive me for the times I have kept my faith private or lived as a consumer rather than a disciple-maker. Give me courage and compassion to invest in others. Open my eyes to the people around me who need someone to walk with them toward You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that my words and actions point people to Jesus. I trust Your promise to be with me always. Use my life to build Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” — Matthew 9:37–38

May you walk today as both a disciple and a disciple maker.
